Wizards Beyond Waverly Place is a Disney Channel and Disney+ original series that serves as a sequel to Wizards of Waverly Place which was created by Todd J. Greenwald. The series stars Janice LeAnn Brown, Alkaio Thiele, Max Matenko, Taylor Cora, Mimi Gianopulos and David Henrie. The series follows a now-adult Justin Russo's return to magic when a powerful young wizard shows up at his door.

Selena Gomez, Maria Canals-Barrera, and David DeLuise reprised their Wizards of Waverly Place roles.

The series premiered on October 29, 2024 on Disney Channel.

Premise[]

Set 15 years after the original Wizards of Waverly Place in 2026, continuing into 2027, the series follows an adult Justin Russo, who has chosen to lead a normal, mortal life with his family, Giada Russo, Roman Russo, and Milo Russo. When Justin’s sister Alex brings Billie to his home seeking help, Justin realizes he must dust off his magical skills to mentor the wizard-in-training while also juggling his everyday responsibilities — and safeguarding the future of the Wizard World.

Billie, a powerful young wizard at the center of a mysterious prophecy, is sent to live in the mortal world with the only wizard teacher who can help her control her powers — Justin Russo.

  • The series was given a pilot order on January 18, 2024, with executive producer Andy Fickman directing the pilot and Jed Elinoff, and Scott Thomas writing.
    • The pilot began filming on February 1, 2024, with David Henrie celebrating the occasion on his Instagram.
    • Selena Gomez guest stars in the Pilot as Alex Russo.
  • Selena Gomez and David Henrie executive produced the pilot alongside Andy Fickman, Gary Marsh, Jed Elinoff, and Scott Thomas.
  • David Henrie assured fans that if the show was picked up to series, that more cast members such as David DeLuise, Jake T. Austin, and Maria Canals-Barrera, would be invited back.

This is just like how Jerry, Megan, and Kelbo Russo are similar in personality to Justin, Alex, and Max in the original series.

  • This show marks the first time ever that Alex Russo is not a main character, the main protagonist, and does not appear in all episodes in the Wizards franchise.
  • Almost all of the episode titles are plays on famous titles or sayings, such as Saved by the Spell being a play on "Saved by the Bell, "You Can't Handle the Tooth" being a play on "You Can't Handle the Truth," When You Wish Upon a Squonk being a play on "When You Wish Upon a Star," and two other episode titles being a play on two Britney Spears songs' titles.
