"I Almost Drowned in a Chocolate Fountain" is the third episode of season one of Wizards of Waverly Place, and the third of the overall series. It premiered on October 26, 2007.

Overview

Alex decides to cheat on her Spanish test using pocket elves, who have in-depth knowledge of diverse subjects. She cheats successfully and is allowed to go on a date that night with Riley. To get revenge for Alex's snitching, Justin and Max try to plant the pocket elf in her purse. The elf then bites her, causing her to have Chocoholism (an uncontrollable craving for chocolate).

Summary

Alex gets a bad score on her Spanish midterm, and Theresa feels really guilty because she blames herself. Alex "explains" she couldn't concentrate while studying her Spanish because Max and Justin where playing paintball. The boys are punished by having to scrape the window to a sparkle condition. Theresa decides to teach Alex Spanish, which she can tell will fail, after seeing that Alex didn't know the difference between español and Spanish.

Jerry teaches the kids about pocket elves, there is one for every subject and if they eat chocolate it's like lighting a fuse on a crazy bomb! He also warns the kids to make sure a pocket elf while chocolate-crazy doesn't bite them. Alex retakes her Spanish test, but cheats by using a pocket elf on the subject of Spanish. She then gets to go on a date with Riley, that Friday, at Medium Rare, a restaurant that has chocolate on the menu. Justin plans a revenge for Alex, by using the Spanish pocket elf, and feeding it chocolate, because as Jerry said earlier, "It's like letting a fuse on a crazy bomb." Also, a wizard should avoid getting bitten by one. Unfortunately, the plan was almost ruined when Max forgot to put the chocolate inside Alex's purse, which would have done nothing. They go to Medium Rare and put it inside her purse, she gets bitten when Harper asks for lip gloss. She suddenly has a craving for chocolate, she tips it all down herself and even chucks a load on the floor making a chocolate slide which she rolls around in. This totally embarrasses her in front of Riley when she realizes what happened, and Riley left because of feeling disgusted when he sees Alex covered herself on a chocolate syrup. Her parents discover the whole thing and ground Alex for lying about her Spanish and almost exposing magic. Jerry interrogates Justin, who almost confesses his part in Alex's embarrassment, when Alex cuts in and lies, claiming the boys were completely innocent. After their parents leave, Justin asks why she didn't tell on them. She says it was because she is going to get back at them for what they did. Max says, "Oh, no! Her getting back at us is way worse than us getting back at her!" To which the boys run upstairs in fear shouting out to their parents it was all their fault.
